The Friends of Norwich Cathedral

The Friends of Norwich Cathedral

The Friends are people from a wide variety of ages, backgrounds and geographical areas who are united by their shared interest in Norwich Cathedral.

The Cathedral receives no government grant but each year faces huge bills for maintenance and conservation.

The Friends of Norwich Cathedral was founded as an independent charity in 1930 to support the Dean and Chapter by:

  • contributing to the repair and maintenance of the ancient fabric of the building, and
  • supporting new projects including the new Refectory and Hostry.

If you are interested in Norwich Cathedral, its mission, history and architecture, please join the Friends. Help us conserve our past and support the Cathedral in new projects so that it can continue to inspire future generations.

Who are the Friends?

There are over 3,000 Friends of Norwich Cathedral. Some are individuals, others are groups; many parochial church councils of churches across Norfolk are members.

80th Birthday

The Friends were founded in 1930 and celebrate their 80th birthday this year.  On Monday 27 September 2010 we will be having a special service to mark this important milestone.
