From the Schools Officer, Juliet Corbett
We look forward to welcoming you to the Hostry, our Education and Visitor Centre, with its purpose built classroom. We offer a range of creative educational programmes from Foundation to Key Stage 4.
Aims
The Cathedral is a welcoming, living building witnessing to the Christian faith. We offer children the opportunity to encounter this awesome and ancient church.
We offer activities which support QCA units of work for all key stages with a strong emphasis on the creative arts.
We encourage learning through hands on activities and workshops, discussion, sharing, reflection and stillness.
We aim for children to take away an experience which has been fantastically fun and fascinating, and which offers them something spiritual and reflective in their often busy lives.
The Education Team
Our talented schools team is made up of qualified teachers, education guides, arts practitioners and others, all of whom have a passion for the Cathedral, learning outside the classroom and the creative arts.
Special Schools
We always give Special Schools a warm welcome to the Cathedral and are happy to adapt our programmes to suit varying needs. Contact Juliet to talk about how we can help.
Other youth groups
As well as school groups we welcome students from language schools, schools from abroad, youth groups and parish groups; please discuss with Juliet how we can help you.
The Cathedral Library
This is a wonderful educational resource for children to see ancient books. Gudrun would be delighted to show around small groups of about fifteen, as part of their History or RE syllabus which can be incorporated into the day.
We hope this website answers your initial queries and helps you decide what programme best suits the needs of your children. To find out more or discuss your booking please contact Juliet, our Schools Officer (01603 218320).
